The Ultimate Guide To Flow Trigger Explorer Tools

The Ultimate Guide To Flow Trigger Explorer Tools

Introduction

Flow Trigger Explorer, you can select an object to see all of the associated flows that run when a record is created, updated, or deleted, and change the order in which those flows run. This interface allows for easy navigation and ordering of all the flows that run under the same circumstances. You can also view individual flow details and manage versions.

Flow Trigger Explorer is accessible from the Flow Setup page or within a record-triggered flow.

Flow Trigger Explorer

Flow Trigger Explorer lists all record-triggered flows that execute for the selected object and trigger. Flows are grouped by when they run: before the record is saved, after the record is saved, or asynchronously. Within those groups, flows appear in the order in which they run.

Arrange Flow order

If you have multiple flows that are going to run from the same trigger, you may need one of those flows to run before the others. Perhaps you need one flow to edit a field before another flow uses it, or you want the related records that each flow creates to appear in a certain order. With Flow Trigger Explorer, you can change the order in which flows run without having to open each flow and change its settings.

To change the order that the flows run:

1. Click the Edit Order button in the section you want to reorder.
2. Click and hold next to the flow you want to reorder.
3. Drag it to the place in the flow order that you want this flow to run.
4. Repeat these steps for any other flows you want to reorder in this section. Flow Trigger Explorer highlights each flow you move, so you know what’s going to be changed.
5. Click Update.

Flow Trigger Explorer lets you view all the flows that will trigger in a particular object/trigger situation, such as when an Opportunity is updated or a Case is created. It gives you a bird’s eye view of all your triggered automation and also lets you dig into specific versions and activate accordingly.

Advanced Properties Option

If you open Advanced Properties on a flow, you’ll see a new setting called Trigger Order. This allows you to number your flows and ensure that Flow A always runs before Flow B, eliminating the need to combine disparate sections of automation just to control the order of execution.

Now you know how to build, manage, and monitor record-triggered flows! Experiment with the  Lead flow by adding more criteria or actions, or create a flow for a different object and explore other options in another record-triggered flow.

How Can I Access Flow Trigger Explorer?

You can access the Salesforce Flow Trigger Explorer in two ways. First, while working on a record-triggered flow in the Flow Builder, select the Start Element, and click the blue link labeled ‘Open Flow Trigger Explorer for Object.’ This link will open the Flow Trigger Explorer for the chosen object in a new tab, so you won’t lose any unsaved progress.

Alternatively, you can access the Flow Trigger Explorer directly from the Flows menu in Setup. This method opens the explorer in a new tab without linking to a specific object, but you can easily navigate to the object you want to analyze with just a few clicks.

How to Utilize Flow Trigger Explorer

The Flow Trigger Explorer provides a comprehensive overview of all record-triggered flows associated with a specific object, allowing Flow Developers to manage the execution order of flows and troubleshoot any issues related to declarative automation in their organization. It displays both active flows and those not yet active for a particular event or scenario.

If you are working in a new or minimal Salesforce org without existing Flow automations, the Flow Trigger Explorer can be used to create and properly order your record-triggered flows before activation, ensuring your automations are set up correctly from the start.

Guidelines for using flow trigger explore

Pay special attention to the Asynchronous Flows section. When working with After-Save Flows that include time-based actions, you might see the same flow listed under both the After-Save and Asynchronous sections in the Flow Trigger Explorer. This dual listing allows Flow Developers to view the initial trigger path as well as any subsequent actions that might occur later. Additionally, keep in mind that subflows within your record-triggered flows won’t be displayed in the Flow Trigger Explorer.

Summary

Flow Trigger Explorer is a straightforward yet highly beneficial feature released by Salesforce. After using it, you’ll quickly realize how indispensable it is for managing multiple record-triggered flows, making it clear why Salesforce is moving away from Process Builder and workflow rules in favor of Flow. Flow Trigger Explorer provides administrators and developers with a comprehensive view of all record-triggered flows associated with a specific object event, categorized into Before, After, and Asynchronous actions. This level of visibility enables optimization and enhancement of record-triggered flow automations to better meet evolving business objectives.
