Mapped Manual Tracking Gaps Across Work Orders and Installed Products
We audited how machine runtime was captured across Work Order closures and identified where manual meter readings introduced errors. This audit became the blueprint for a trigger-based automation layer.
Built Trigger-Based Runtime Calculation on Work Order Closure
We built an Apex trigger that fires only when a Work Order's End Date is populated for the first time, paired with a handler class that identifies the previous Work Order and calculates the time delta. A trigger bypass setting keeps the automation configurable.
Hardened the Logic Against Null and Invalid Readings
We added validation so the system stores only positive, valid time deltas, filtering out null and invalid values before they reach reporting. Dynamic SOQL pulls only the fields required per configuration, keeping processing efficient.
Made Field Mapping Configurable Without Code Changes
We moved field mapping into Custom Settings with schema validation, so time-tracking fields can be reconfigured safely without a developer touching Apex. This keeps the automation adaptable as machine types change.
Shipped a Native Dashboard on the Installed Product Record
We built a Lightning Web Component dashboard, embedded directly on the Installed Product, that renders day-wise stacked usage charts via Highcharts. Field-wise summary totals and Month/Year/Custom filters give operations managers usage trends without leaving Salesforce.
Technicians used to log machine hours by hand after every visit. Now the system calculates it the moment a Work Order closes — nobody touches a meter reading, and operations managers see the trend without asking for a report.
